About
I am Max Rafaël Turland an artist whose artistic journey is deeply shaped by my upbringing in Amsterdam and my ongoing artistic exploration and life in Paris. Growing up in a multicultural household gave me a wide array of perspectives, emotions, experiences and questions, which I use to engage viewers to open up to complexities of identity and existence.
From a young age, my dreams and nightmares have profoundly impacted my life and artistic expression. As a self-taught artist, I channel these vivid experiences into my paintings, using music, philosophy, history, and my own emotions as sources of inspiration. My art serves as a bridge between the subconscious and the conscious, where I explore the complexities of the love and anger I feel for the world we live in.
I strive to create a poetic atmosphere in my work, where images, colors and words are allowed to intertwine. My paintings reflect the duality of our existence, capturing both the individual and collective experience. Painting all of us and none of us at the same time.
I have had the privilege of exhibiting my work internationally, showcasing my art in prestigious cities such as Amsterdam, London, Montreal, and Berlin. My art has also been featured on the cover of the esteemed publication Numéro Netherlands.
